Introduction to Godzilla

They will a monster into being
and watch it rise from the sea,
a towering behemoth

or hear its roar echo through the city.

I bellow, unleash a tempest upon their shores
and watch their vessels crumble and drown,
let them bask in my radiant fury
and scorch the air with a nuclear crown.

I crave for them to soar
above the ruins of their fallen world
awestruck by my name carved in fire.

But all they want to do
is chain me to an island with steel
and demand a hero out of me.

They begin firing their tanks
to find out what I truly am.

Did I Unleash Chaos?

When I rose from the ocean’s depths
I tread with reverence upon your shores
in harmony, for the tranquil twilight

I unleashed an apocalypse of fury.
Your Tokyo Tower crumbled to dust
and Shinjuku ablaze, a spectacle to behold
on which I’m about to cast a shadow

None of the roars of this leviathan
bear vengeance or spite
Wander as far as you like:
any quakes you feel beneath Asakusa’s streets
I assure you are not of my making
and are without intent

A few heartbeats after my awakening
a blaze of radiance suddenly erupted and a deity
or other cosmic entity appeared
and revealed to me what each Titan
must do to restore equilibrium to this world and
the cosmos beyond
This is the last time I will march
before I return to bring serenity to all beings on earth.

When you are not gazing
how could a savior’s presence be known?

Contained in this sprawling metropolis
is a microcosm of life’s eternal struggle
assembled for you to behold and contemplate and marvel
This is not the only place such a paradox has been gathered

but it was one place

And you trembled before me

The Kaiju

Loses his place on seismograph or chart in lab report
May roar much but conveys little intent
Cannot give clear signal of approach
Does not understand the cries of crowds
Does not understand the pleas of cities
Cannot answer “friend or foe” inquiries

Has great difficulty interpreting motives
Has difficulty recalling what he razed or spared, etc.
Cannot discern a plea from a provocation
Cannot recognize human absurdities

Has difficulty classifying and categorizing self
Has difficulty retaining such things as
benevolence and wrath, or scales of justice
May protect a world one day and not the next

Tokyo’s Colossus

so much unleashed
by

my towering form
looming

over city’s
scape

above the crushed
bus

sparks from wires
dancing

near the shocked
faces

The Roar & the Rising

Here we stand again, comrades, here we stand;
Or see our land devoured by a living terror.
In times of calm, we’ve known the cherry trees,
The gentle hum of life, the laughter’s echo:
But when Gojira’s roar disrupts our peace,
We rise as one, defenders of our home;
Steady our hearts, let courage be released,
Replace serenity with will of stone;
Then look ahead with eyes of dauntless might;
Let them pierce through the ash and city’s blaze
Like lanterns bright; let hope endure the night
As firm as Fuji, standing through all days,
Unyielding to the tempest’s howling rage.
Now clench your fists, breathe deep, and turn the page,
Hold fast to faith, and lift each soul anew
To face this test. Onward, Nihon, so true.
You are the children of a storied past,
Of samurai and shogun, unsurpassed.
They held their honor, now the call is yours:
Preserve their legacy, protect our shores.
Rise up, all people, in this fateful hour,
Together, we’ll confront this monstrous power.
And you, our guardians in uniform,
Show us the spirit that defies the storm.
Let’s prove our mettle, show our unity,
For every one of you brings light to see.
I see you ready, like the bowstring drawn,
Poised for the flight. The challenge meets the dawn:
Follow your hearts, and as we brave the unknown,
Shout “Warera no Nihon, warera no mirai,
Warera no furusato no tame ni!”

Minilla

This is how you rise from the ocean floor; this is how you shake the salt from your scales; this is how you roar, a sound that echoes through the canyons of the city; this is how you stomp, each footfall a thunderclap, each stride a tempest; this is how you breathe fire, a blaze that engulfs the sky and chars the earth; this is how you become a force of nature, a tempest and a wildfire; this is how you bear the weight of being both protector and destroyer; this is how you guard the world that fears you, the world that calls you monster; this is how you face the other kaiju, the ones who come with malice in their hearts; this is how you fight, with claws that rend and jaws that crush; this is how you stand your ground, unyielding as the mountains; this is how you show mercy, for even a monster knows compassion; this is how you spare the innocent, the ones who flee your shadow; but why must I be both gentle and fierce?; this is how you carry the paradox within you, the duality of your being; this is how you find balance, like the earth and sea in harmony; this is how you know your purpose, a guardian born from chaos; this is how you embrace your nature, the fury and the calm; this is how you walk among the humans, the ones who tell your story; this is how you listen to their voices, the cries of love and hatred; this is how you bear the burden of their awe and their terror; this is how you become a legend, a myth that spans the ages; this is how you shape your destiny, a tale of wrath and wonder; this is how you leave your mark, a trail of devastation and renewal; this is how you find your place in the world, a world that you can save or shatter; this is how you face your reflection, the visage of a savior and a scourge; this is how you grapple with your identity, the question of your existence; this is how you confront your doubts, the fears that haunt your thoughts; this is how you rise above, a titan among titans; this is how you heed the call, the summons to the battle; this is how you answer the challenge, the duel that tests your mettle; this is how you claim your victory, a triumph hard-won and noble; but what if I am not strong enough?; this is how you find your strength, in the heart that beats within you; this is how you become a kaiju, a being of untold power and untamed grace; this is how you walk the path before you, a journey of destruction and redemption; this is how you carry the legacy, the heritage of the kaiju; this is how you honor the past, the history of our kind; this is how you shape the future, a tomorrow yet unwritten; this is how you become who you are meant to be: a kaiju of legend and of lore.

In the Realm of Glow & Tremble

Sunfire dances on scales, he strides to the sea;
Frozen faces in the subway car, struck lifeless.
